When I see high schoolers talking about how much they can’t wait to be an adult.
MOTHERFUCKERS COULDN’T GET ON WONDER WOMEN’S LEVEL

#1. Don’t let others tell you how to think, feel, or act. Living too closely to another person’s standards causes one to lose themselves in the process. Be unapologetically yourself and always stick up for what you believe in.
#2. I don’t care how in love you think you are right now, your high school sweetheart probably isn’t going to last more than a few years. Stop banking on your relationship being forever. You have all of your life to figure it out.
#3. Nobody can or should ruin anything for you. It doesn’t matter if the song that you love is the one your best friend used to love before you grew apart, or that that movie was one that you watched a thousand times with your ex before they turned out to be a trash person. If you love something, OWN IT.
#4. Do the things that scare you. If it makes your hair stand on end, or your palms sweat, get out there and do it. Memories are made by doing the things that you enjoy, and you’ll never know about all of the things that you enjoy without some trial and error first.
#5. Stay away from toxic people and know when to let go. Time moves by much more quickly in the real world and if you don’t keep an eye out, you’ll find yourself with years down the drain from spending too much time with a person who could never truly value you.
#6. Love yourself first. Spoil yourself. Fight that lingering doubt in your mind until you can feel comfortable in your own skin. Most people will never know what it’s like to truly love themselves.
#7. Keep an eye on your bank account. I’m serious. Don’t max out your credit cards, remember to make your payments on time, and please, keep an eye on your credit score. Otherwise, you’ll never know anything until you really need it.
#8. Stay on top of things. Keep your house clean and your work done and you’ll find the natural happiness that comes from it.
#9. Don’t sweat the little things. It may not feel so little now, but that thing that you’re crying about today won’t matter to you a year from now.

If you ever think that universal healthcare is a bad idea, stop to think about this for a moment.
Back in 2011, my mother was in a horrible car crash that was a complete accident. She hadn’t been drinking, it was early in the morning, and the only thing that could be put at fault was Mother Nature for causing one of the worst Idaho winters that year. She hit a patch of black ice and crashed into a pole, wrapping her car around it. After several hours of firemen prying her loose from the mangled scrap of metal that was once her car, she was life-flighted to a nearby hospital where they toiled for hours trying to save her. Her right foot was severed at the crash site. Her right leg was amputated shortly afterwards, condemning her to a life of existing without a limb. She was in that hospital on life-support for over a month while her crushed bones and punctured lung healed.
6 years later and we’re still paying the hospital bills. 6 years later and my mother still can’t find a good paying job because she’s crippled and every employer takes one look at her and sees immediate liability. 6 years later and she’s been able to upgrade her prosthetic, her only choice in being able to walk, one time.
How many friends and family of yours will be living with medical debt for their whole lives? How many cancer patients deny treatment every day for fear of putting their families into that kind of debt even after they’re dead and gone? How many children get pneumonia from a simple cold because their parents have to decide between feeding their child and spending money they don’t have on a doctor’s visit?
If you don’t believe in universal healthcare, you don’t believe in life.
Maybe it’s one of those things that you have to experience firsthand before you can pull your head out of your ass and admit that it’s a problem.
